Batuan Sedimen (2)

Batuan Sedimen (sedimentary rocks) merupakan batuan yang terbentuk akibat pengendapan bahan rombakan batuan hasil denudasi, desintegrasi, reaksi kimia ataupun hasil kegiatan organisme, yang mengalami sementasi dan kompaksi (litifikasi).

Proses kompaksi pada umumnya terjadi akibat terbebaninya lapisan akibat sedimen yang berada diatasnya, sehingga menyebabkan hubungan antar butir menjadi lebih dekat dan juga air yang terkandung dalam pori-pori lapisan tertekan keluar.

Proses Sementasi adalah proses dimana butiran-butiran sedimen direkatkan oleh material lain, dapat berasal dari air tanah atau hasil pelarutan mineral-mineral dalam sedimen itu sendiri. Material semennya dapat berupa karbonat (CO3), silika (Si), atau oksida (Fe)


• Material Sedimen dapat berupa:
1. Fragmen atau mineral dari batuan lain, contoh: kerikil, pasir pantai, dan lumpur laut
2. Hasil proses kimia seperti garam di danau payau dan kalsium karbonat (CaCO3) di laut dangkal
3. Material organik seperti bekas terumbu koral di laut


• Batuan Sedimen terbagi 2 atas genesisnya atau proses pembentukannya, yaitu:
1. Batuan Sedimen Klastik (klik link)
Batuan sedimen klastik terbentuk akibat pengendapan kembali detritus atau pecahan-pecahan batuan asal, dapat berupa batuan beku, sedimen atau metamorf.
